The Guitar
This is a Teuffel Birdfish Electric Guitar, an extraordinary instrument designed and handcrafted in Germany by Ulrich Teuffel.
First introduced in 1995, the Birdfish is one of the most distinctive and innovative electric guitars ever created. Blending cutting-edge industrial design with traditional tonewoods and precision engineering, it completely reimagines the construction of a solid-body electric guitar. Produced in a limited series of just 500 instruments, the Birdfish is a highly collectable piece of modern guitar design.
The defining feature of the Birdfish is its unique modular construction. Rather than using a conventional solid body, the guitar features two interchangeable wooden tone bars mounted to a beautifully engineered aluminium frame. These tone bars form the heart of the instrument's acoustic response, allowing players to experiment with different woods and explore changes in tonal character without needing a different guitar.
The Birdfish also features an innovative sliding pickup system, allowing the pickups to be repositioned along a central rail and exchanged with other compatible units. The available pickup options include vintage-style single coils and three different humbucker designs, voiced around P90, PAF and high-output PAF characteristics. This makes the Birdfish an exceptionally versatile instrument, capable of producing everything from articulate, percussive clean tones to warm vintage humbucker sounds and aggressive overdriven textures.
The headless design and asymmetrical bird's-eye maple neck give the guitar a striking silhouette, while the aluminium structural components are individually finished to an exceptionally high standard. The result is an instrument that feels as much like a piece of precision engineering as a traditional musical instrument.
Despite its futuristic appearance, the Birdfish retains the familiar 25.5" scale length and 22-fret layout of a conventional electric guitar. Its lightweight construction, carefully considered ergonomics and lively, percussive response make it a genuinely inspiring instrument for both performance and recording.
An exceptionally rare and innovative guitar, the Teuffel Birdfish is a superb choice for collectors, professional musicians and players looking for an instrument that pushes the boundaries of traditional guitar design.
